Weekly News Update

In this week’s news comes a beautiful story from the Telegraph. On Saturday 25th June, in London, the traditional Gay Pride Parade took place. An event where thousands of people come together to celebrate and support the LGBT community.

As the police force began their parade, one officer named Jonathon Sammons, broke out the ranks and went over to his boyfriend and got down on one knee to propose to him. The march stopped and the crowds broke out in happiness as the pair embraced when Pete said yes. I think this story is such a fantastic story for the representation of homosexuals and gender aswell. People have this stereotype that male police officers are big, strong and heterosexual, but this article proves all of this wrong, showing that you don’t have to be straight to be a police officer, and more importantly, that a person should not judge a book by its cover.

  1. A nice story to choose following the recent Orlando attacks and gives a positive change to the serious stress that comes from the E.U referendum. You have also highlighted its significance as a representation of gender/sexuality which could also be linked to issues regarding homophobia. To improve it would probably be more beneficial to you to include images to jog your memory and so in future you are more inclined to look back on this post.
