In the news
this week, has been the shocking story of the El Salvador ‘baby swap’ between
Moses and Jacob. This story is particularly interesting because its content is
one of a big shock as we do not expect babies to get swapped over in hospital.
Mrs Cushworth noticed something was wrong when she was given her baby back
after a caesarean and noticed the baby had a darker skin tone than before and
looked slightly different, she was reassured by the nurse that babies change
colour after birth yet for the next month after that, she was still having the
same feelings of doubt that ‘Moses’ (Jacob) was not her son. She ordered a DNA
test and it was revealed that the baby she thought was hers was actually the
baby of an El Salvadorian couple. 4 other babies born that same day were tested
for DNA results, and the baby that matched that of Mr and Mrs Cushworth was
found. The two couples met at the Attorney General immediately for the children to be swapped back at 8.40pm on 7th September 2015.
The article is relatable to most people in the world, because most
people have children and the thought of having their child swapped or to what
Mr and Mrs Cushworth thought, stolen, is an extremely horrible thought. I think
this article was in the news because politics and religious issues cover the
news nowadays and for a story that is quite rare and heart reaching to come
about makes it quite appealing. El Salvador 'baby swap'
